Individual therapy is a therapeutic support directed at a person that faces a problem or discomfort in his life and needs help. This will go in an hour session, in which the person will be encouraged to free and express thoughts and feelings about everything that is living, creating a space of intimacy and trust between the therapist and the person.
The relationship established between the two is the context in which the therapeutic process occurs, applying the techniques and principles for therapy. The meetings are held weekly or fortnightly. The duration of the process is agreed based on need, and it is always advisable to conclude the therapy with a completion session or closure.
To achieve the therapeutic goal is important the co-responsibility of both in the process. The personal commitment to the therapy is necessary to move forward. As the person is becoming aware, he may be accessing his own resources and achieve greater self-support, more balance, inner strength, confidence and self esteem. On the other hand, the therapist is committed to her presence, attitude and experience to deliver what’s best for the individual at every moment.
To achieve a comprehensive learning during the session are favored expressive techniques, and experiential theater in general, obtaining a therapeutic experience that sticks in the mind, body and heart, which serves to lay the groundwork for the changes.
The therapist does not interpret or condition: simply accompanies and uses himself in therapy, providing resources. Heed the behavior, not explanations. It has a direct and active style and promotes the awareness, avoiding speculative questions, the here and now instead of there and then.
